Hags Pottery is Born

In 2020, as COVID19 hit, we moved into our new house. Things didn’t unfold quite as we’d imagined during our home move and renovation. But, in the midst of the disruption, a new idea for how to live our lives began to emerge. (More on this in another blog post).

As the house renovation took place – my little studio gathered momentum at the bottom of the garden – it was first a storage unit while we moved house but was soon transformed into Hags Pottery. You can see its progress through pictures on my Instagram account and through the captions below.


Site Prepared
(3 September 2021)

The groundwork has begun, and the site is prepared to receive the kiln shed! It's the first step toward setting up the pottery space where all the magic will happen. Exciting times ahead!

Home for Kiln Arrives
(2 October 2021)

Stage 1 of Hags Pottery is complete! The site now has a designated spot for the kiln, marking a huge milestone in the pottery setup journey. The vision is slowly becoming a reality.

Giant Screws Go In
(6 October 2021)

Progress continues as we install giant screws in the ground to form the base for the garden studio. This is a crucial step in making sure everything is sturdy and secure for the kiln and the rest of the setup. It’s getting real now!

Hags Pottery is Born
(11 October 2021)

It’s official - Hags Pottery is born! We’ve reached a major milestone as the space starts to take shape, and the kiln and studio are one step closer to being operational.

Very Excited with our New Sink!
(13 October 2021)

A glamorous addition to the pottery setup - this heavy-duty sink comes complete with a trap to stop clay and glaze debris from clogging up the pipes. Practical and stylish, it's the perfect addition to the space!

Time to Move in the Kiln and Wheel
(16 October 2021)

We’re in Stage 4 now, getting the kiln and wheel moved into place. We’re so close, just waiting for power and water to make everything fully functional. Things are really coming together!

Rather Dull Photos but a Very Exciting Delivery
(24 November 2021)

The kiln and wheel have arrived, and while the photos may be a little dull, the excitement is real! Unfortunately, they’ll be staying in their boxes for a bit longer while we finish the setup, but it won’t be long now.

The Power is On!
(10 April 2022)

The big moment has arrived - the power is on! I can finally plug in the kiln and start getting it ready for use. This is a huge step toward bringing the pottery studio to life.

Kiln in Position and Plugged In!
(24 April 2022)

The kiln is now in position and plugged in - ready to be fired up! Now it’s just a matter of building up the nerve to fire something for the first time. The wheel is also in place, though it’s not quite spinning yet. Exciting times ahead!
