Animation Station (for Wimbledon Bookfest) - Day 2

Sunday, 8th October 2017

Day 2 of the Animation Station for Wimbledon Bookfest saw us working on larger scale animations with Artist and Illustrator Amy Pennington, as well as consolidating our work on stop motion animations using the e-motion app on the i-Pad.

We started by looking at animations made at our previous animation course to give the children inspiration for new work. Then we looked at how to make simple props to tell a striking story, and worked in groups to storyboard our ideas once more.

We worked in groups to storyboard our ideas once more. Then we started to make props out of card, paper, string and tape. We created backdrops from paper and fabric.

We started to act out scenes of our stories. It was lovely to work in the open space of the hall after the closer work of yesterday. We were working together to solve problems and help each other.

We began to film our sequences using a suspended camera. Each tiny movement was photographed. We took roles of director, camera operator and actors.

While each group filmed their animation the others worked on making smaller scale animations using inanimate objects and collaged characters. We used cutouts from magazines to create a crazy character.

We made another simple backdrop and filmed a sequence of movements to create a scene from a story.

We have put the body animations together and make a show reel of all the animations made on Day 2. Click the button below to view
